The Multicultural Entrepreneurial Institute has trained hundreds of prospective business owners since it was founded in 2006. After completing the training program, 10 entrepreneurs recently competed for $3,000 grants to start or expand their businesses.

‘Timebanking’ supporters exchange ideas
Now more than 500 participants strong, “timebanking” is a growing phenomenon in Milwaukee. Recently, the Milwaukee Area Time Exchange, the city’s first timebank, hosted a regional conference attended by people from several states.

Clarke Square neighborhood takes census into its own hands
Only about half of Clarke Square residents filled out their 2010 census forms, information that the federal government uses for multiple purposes including allocating funds to communities. As a result, the Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative is taking its own census.
